I am impressed with the progress my writing has made this semester. I improved the most in our writers workshops, the writing process and in my voice. Although I know I have a lot to improve on next semester I am happy with my progress thus far.

Writers Workshop
"The Babysitters Shrug" was the first real essay we wrote this semester. I struggled with the assignment at first because I hated writing about myself and my experiences. However the writers workshop helped me flesh out my ideas and caught mistakes I had made in my rough draft I would have otherwise missed.
My essay "Feminist Dating" was also a more personal essay. I describe the effect of the feminist movement on dating in the modern age. I use evidence and examples from my dating life to show the positive effects of this movements influence. This was a timed, in-class essay so I couldn't benefit from sharing a draft with others and editing inside a writers workshop. I am repetitive and a little boring in this essay. |
Writing Process
My SAT pre-assessment was on the topic of technology. I argued that technology has saved countless lives and the human race is better with each new advancement of technology. This essay suffers for its lack of writing process. I make multiple errors in MLA formatting and organization that could have been avoided with a pre-write or draft of some kind.
"You Are My Sunshine", a descriptive essay focusing on my best friend Jessica Bauer. I describe her appearance, personality and even the ways she positively affects those she loves. This essay is an improvement from my pre-write because it contains less MLA errors and is a little better organized because of the many drafts and edits I made. |
Voice
This is by far my favorite essay I've written all semester. Here I detail the many steps one must take to become a true "Lady". I love my voice in this essay, it is sassy, funny but still smart and really represents my personality as a writer.
